Delhi Assembly Speaker Demands Answers from Punjab Police Over Atishi Video FIR
Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta announced on Friday that he has issued notices to Punjab police officials and the state's Forensic Science Laboratory. He wants clear explanations about the registration of an FIR concerning former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi's controversial video clip.
Multiple Police Officials Receive Notices
Gupta revealed that he has sought detailed responses from three key police officers. These include the Punjab Director General of Police, the DGP for cyber security, and the Jalandhar Police Commissioner. All three officials have been directed to submit their reports by January 22.
The Speaker also confirmed that a separate notice has been sent to Punjab's Forensic Science Laboratory. The FSL must explain the scientific basis behind its report on the video clip.
Court Order Preceded This Development
This action follows a significant court order from Jalandhar. Just one day earlier, the court instructed major social media platforms to remove the controversial video. The order specifically named Meta, X, YouTube, and Telegram.
The court directed these platforms to delete the video from the social media accounts of BJP, Congress, and Shiromani Akali Dal leaders. The order also applied to any other accounts sharing the content.
The Forensic Science Laboratory's report played a crucial role in the court's decision. Jalandhar police had submitted this report as evidence. The court order explicitly mentioned that the forensic analysis established the video with subtitles as 'doctored'.
Judges noted that examination of the video clip with subtitles indicated the material could potentially incite public disorder. This finding formed the legal basis for the removal order.
Police Officials Cite Various Reasons for Delay
During a press conference on Friday, Speaker Gupta detailed the responses he has received so far from police officials. He stated that Punjab police officers have requested additional time for different reasons.
The Punjab DGP informed Gupta that his father recently passed away. He needs time to participate in funeral rituals before preparing his response.
Meanwhile, the Jalandhar Police Commissioner cited another commitment. She explained that preparations for the President's visit have occupied her schedule. This has prevented her from preparing the required reply promptly.
The DGP for cyber security presented a different perspective. This official stated that their department has no connection to the matter. They claimed no involvement in the investigation process.
Gupta acknowledged that the cyber security department provided some logical explanations. He confirmed these will be studied carefully. However, he emphasized that the DGP for cyber security will still need to appear personally. Further clarification will be necessary.
The Speaker's actions demonstrate serious scrutiny of the legal processes surrounding this controversial video. His demands for transparency highlight the ongoing political tensions surrounding the case.
