After assuming power last year, the BJP-led administration actively sought early court hearings to facilitate the withdrawal of these cases. The matters in question spanned a range of critical issues, including the appointment of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) chairman, disputes over the Services Department, implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, funding allocations for the Delhi Jal Board, appointment of lawyers in Delhi riot cases, and the formation of a high-level committee on Yamuna pollution. Approximately a dozen such cases were pending resolution at the time.

An official involved in the process stated, "Many of these cases were politically motivated and had been delaying essential projects. They were withdrawn in the public interest to ensure smoother governance." The official further explained that because court hearings were scheduled on different dates, separate applications had to be filed before the respective courts to expedite the withdrawal process.

During the tenure of the AAP government, frequent clashes occurred between the state administration and successive lieutenant governors—Najeeb Jung, Anil Baijal, and VK Saxena—with many disputes escalating to the courts. In a notable precedent, last May, the Supreme Court permitted the Delhi government to withdraw seven cases against the lieutenant governor. Similarly, the Delhi High Court allowed the withdrawal of a plea against the LG concerning the appointment of prosecutors for farmers' protest and Delhi riot cases.
