Congress Leaders to Address Farmers' Convention in Bhopal, Launch Nationwide Protest Against India-US Trade Deal
Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Mallikarjun Kharge are scheduled to visit Bhopal on Tuesday to address a significant farmers' convention organized by the Congress party. The event marks the beginning of a nationwide protest campaign against the recent interim trade agreement between India and the United States.
Massive Rally to Protest Trade Deal
The Congress is orchestrating a large-scale farmers' rally in Bhopal to voice opposition to the India-US interim trade deal. This decision was formally made during a meeting held at the AICC office, where party leaders resolved to challenge the agreement, which they argue compromises the interests of Indian farmers.
In a related development, the US Supreme Court struck down former President Donald Trump's tariff policy on Thursday. Congress leaders have contended that if Prime Minister Narendra Modi had delayed accepting the interim trade deal by just 18 more days, Indian farmers' interests could have been better safeguarded in light of this judicial decision.
State Congress President Condemns the Agreement
Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari spoke to reporters on Saturday, delivering a strong critique of the trade deal. "The deal signed under pressure from Trump is a betrayal of farmers," Patwari asserted. "A sword was placed on the throats of our farmers cultivating soyabeans, cotton, maize, and other crops to sign a trade deal of compromise."
Patwari emphasized that the Congress party's nationwide protest against the agreement will commence from Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, signaling a concerted effort to mobilize agricultural communities across the country.
Nationwide Protest Campaign Initiated
The Congress party plans to extend its protests against Prime Minister Modi's trade deal with Trump throughout India, starting with the rally in Madhya Pradesh. This strategic move aims to highlight concerns over the potential impact on farmers and agricultural sectors, positioning the party as a defender of rural interests in the face of international trade negotiations.
