NEW DELHI: Pushing back against claims of delay in selecting the Kerala Chief Minister, AICC manager Ajay Maken stated that Congress has taken an average of five days in selecting its 22 Chief Ministers since 2000, compared to BJP’s average of 7.2 days for its 30 Chief Ministers.
Maken’s Social Media Post
Amid intense headlines over the issue, Maken posted on social media his calculation of the time taken by the two national parties in selecting their Chief Ministers over the last 26 years. He revealed that Congress has never taken more than nine days to pick a Chief Minister, as in the case of Kerala, which will end on Thursday on the tenth day. In 14 out of the 22 cases, Congress took five days or less to select a Chief Minister.
BJP’s Record
In contrast, Maken found that BJP took 15 days to select the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2022. The party took eight days or more in 13 of the 30 instances of selecting a Chief Minister. Specific examples include Uttarakhand’s Chief Minister in 2022, picked in 13 days; Rajasthan’s Chief Minister in 2023, selected after 12 days; and Delhi’s Chief Minister in 2025, also selected after 12 days.
Conclusion
Maken concluded, “Congress is 40% faster than BJP in selecting a Chief Minister.”
