CM Mohan Yadav Seeks Amit Shah's Guidance on Bhopal Memorial and Tribal Initiatives
In a significant meeting in New Delhi on Saturday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav met with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss key state projects and development plans. The primary focus was on a proposed memorial and redevelopment plan for the former Union Carbide factory land in Bhopal, a site of historical tragedy.
Bhopal Gas Tragedy Memorial and Redevelopment Blueprint
The state government has prepared a comprehensive blueprint to transform 87 acres of the Union Carbide factory site into a multifaceted complex. This plan includes a Bhopal Gas Tragedy Memorial to honor the victims, alongside a science park, a convention centre, a modern laboratory dedicated to national security, and a national research centre focused on development. CM Yadav emphasized that Bhopal witnessed a devastating gas tragedy 40 years ago, resulting in over 25,000 fatalities. He noted that last year, the state successfully disposed of hazardous waste stored at the site, paving the way for this redevelopment.
Innovations for Farmers and Tribal Development
During the meeting, CM Yadav also highlighted several initiatives aimed at farmer welfare. The year 2026 is being observed as ‘Krishak Kalyan Varsh’ (Farmer Welfare Year), with the state government undertaking various innovations. For the first time, an Agriculture Cabinet meeting will be held in the tribal region of Barwani on March 2, where farmers will receive a special Holi bonanza as part of these efforts.
Security Achievements and Tribal Festivals
CM Yadav announced that Madhya Pradesh has become free from Naxalite operations, terming it a notable achievement. He stated that MP is the first state to bid ‘Lal Salam ko Akhiri Salam’ (final farewell to Naxalism), with strong action taken against all forms of Naxal activities. Balaghat district, which long suffered from Naxalism, is now a focus for development. Guidance has been sought from Amit Shah to organise the Baiga Mahotsav there, aimed at promoting holistic development in the region.
This meeting underscores the state's commitment to memorializing past tragedies while advancing current welfare and security initiatives under central guidance.
