BJP Firmly Rejects Alliance with Actor Vijay's TVK in Tamil Nadu
In a decisive statement, former BJP state president K Annamalai has categorically ruled out any potential alliance between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Tamil Nadu. Annamalai emphasized that the two political entities are fundamentally incompatible, drawing a vivid analogy to illustrate his point.
"Coffee and Tea Cannot Be Mixed"
Speaking to reporters at the Saidapet court in Chennai on Tuesday, Annamalai declared, "Coffee and tea cannot be mixed and consumed together," underscoring the ideological and strategic differences between the BJP and TVK. He made these remarks while appearing in connection with a defamation suit he filed against DMK organisation secretary RS Bharathi, who had linked the BJP to the Kallakurichi liquor deaths.
When questioned about whether the BJP was exploring an alliance with TVK, Annamalai clarified, "Our state president Nainar Nagenthran has already stated that there were no talks with Vijay." He reiterated the party's commitment to the existing National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the AIADMK, asserting that the coalition remains strong and well-prepared for upcoming elections.
Confidence in NDA's Strength
Annamalai expressed unwavering confidence in the NDA's prospects, stating, "We are ready to face the elections and are confident of victory." He highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's scheduled visit to Trichy on Wednesday would further reaffirm the alliance's strength and unity in Tamil Nadu.
Later in the day, BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran addressed reporters in Chennai, dismissing speculation that the NDA was delaying seat-sharing talks in hopes of TVK joining the front. He emphasized the independence of investigative agencies, saying, "Agencies such as the CBI and Enforcement Directorate function independently, just like the Election Commission of India," in response to allegations linking alliance discussions with CBI summons issued to Vijay.
No Comment on TVK's Potential Inclusion
When asked about PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss's comment that new parties could join the NDA, Nagenthran acknowledged that several parties were indeed waiting to align with the alliance. However, he notably declined to comment when specifically questioned about whether the NDA would welcome TVK into its fold.
In response to the ongoing speculation, CTR Nirmal Kumar, joint general secretary of TVK, stated that the party would not engage with rumors or reports regarding talks with the BJP, maintaining a stance of non-response to such conjecture.
This development underscores the BJP's strategic positioning in Tamil Nadu as it gears up for electoral battles, firmly closing the door on any collaboration with Vijay's nascent political outfit while bolstering its existing alliances within the NDA framework.
