BJP Uses Nehru Speech to Counter Rahul Gandhi Jibe

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday invoked a speech by Jawaharlal Nehru to target Rahul Gandhi after the Congress leader mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal for conserving fuel and deferring gold purchases to save foreign exchange. The ruling party accused the Congress of confining its politics to the pursuit of power at the cost of nation-building.

Nehru's Speech Referenced

A clip of Nehru's speech at a public meeting was shared by the BJP, in which the first Prime Minister said that global events like the Korean War in the early 1950s or certain incidents in the United States adversely impacted India and could cause price rises. The BJP asked Rahul Gandhi: "If appealing to people to be responsible is failure, then was your beloved Nehru ji a 'compromised PM'?" This was a direct retort to Rahul's barb against Modi.

BJP Spokesperson's Remarks

BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi accused the Congress of advancing its "political interests by creating social and political disorder" and questioned whether the party supports securing India's future. He highlighted that every region of the world, including the US, Europe, and West Asia, is currently facing some form of economic, strategic, or energy crisis.

Trivedi further stated that the Congress's approach has been to prioritize power over nation-building, and the party's criticism of the government's appeals for responsible consumption is evidence of this mindset. The BJP's counterattack underscores the ongoing political battle over economic management and national security.
