BJP Prepares for Massive Rally in Kolkata with PM Modi's Address
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is gearing up for a significant political event in Kolkata, aiming to bring approximately 1 lakh supporters to the Brigade Grounds this Saturday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the rally, marking the culmination of the Parivartan Yatra. Organizers have coordinated extensively with local authorities to ensure smooth logistics and security for the large-scale gathering.
Logistics and Transportation Arrangements
To facilitate the influx of supporters, the BJP has booked seven special trains to transport attendees from various districts, with a substantial contingent expected from North Bengal. Additionally, party organizers have requested the Kolkata Police to arrange parking for around 2,500 buses and cars in the vicinity of the Maidan area. Supporters will participate in rallies starting from Howrah and Sealdah stations, which will converge at the Brigade Grounds. An officer mentioned that a separate rally will also originate from south Kolkata, adding to the overall turnout.
Enhanced Security Measures
Security has been heightened for the event, with about 3,000 Kolkata Police personnel deputed around the venue from 9 am onwards. Visitors will undergo frisking at least twice before entering the rally site to maintain safety. Additional forces and 50 pickets will be deployed along the rally routes to manage crowds and prevent any untoward incidents. Police sources emphasized that these measures are crucial given the scale of the gathering.
Traffic Restrictions and Regulations
In anticipation of the rally, Kolkata Police Commissioner Supratim Sarkar announced extensive traffic restrictions that will be in effect from 4 am to 8 pm on Saturday, with the possibility of extension if necessary. Key roads affected include Esplanade ramp, KP Road, Hospital Road, Lovers' Lane, Casuarina Avenue, and Queensway. Goods vehicles will be prohibited within Kolkata Police jurisdiction during these hours, except for those transporting essential items such as LPG cylinders, CNG, petroleum products, oxygen, medicines, and perishables.
The BJP's mobilization efforts underscore the party's focus on strengthening its presence in West Bengal through high-profile events like this rally. With Prime Minister Modi's address expected to draw significant attention, the arrangements reflect a comprehensive approach to logistics, security, and public engagement in the region.
