BJP and NDA Allies Conduct Panthakkaal Ceremony in Trichy for PM Modi's March 11 Rally

In Trichy, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners, including the AIADMK and AMMK, organized a panthakkaal ceremony on Wednesday. This traditional event marked the commencement of preparations for a major election campaign rally scheduled to be addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 11.

Venue and Logistics for the Rally

The ceremony took place at Panjapur, where approximately 30 acres of land along the Trichy-Madurai National Highway has been designated for the rally. This strategic location is expected to facilitate large-scale attendance and smooth logistics for the event.

Key figures present at the panthakkaal ceremony included BJP general secretary Karuppu Muruganandham and AIADMK representatives, notably Trichy urban district secretary J Srinivasan. According to BJP sources, the rally is anticipated to draw around 5 lakh people, highlighting significant public interest and support for the NDA alliance in the region.

Statements from Union Minister L Murugan

Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, L Murugan, provided details about the Prime Minister's schedule, stating that Modi is expected to arrive at the venue around 4 PM on March 11. Murugan expressed confidence in the NDA's electoral prospects, asserting, "NDA will sweep the election; people are prepared to elect us and send DMK home. Only NDA can provide a double engine government."

He further emphasized the perceived achievements of the previous AIADMK government under former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami from 2016 to 2021, suggesting that voters in Tamil Nadu recognize this period as one of prosperity and effective governance.

Potential Alliance Expansion

When questioned about the possibility of including the new political party formed by expelled AIADMK leader V. K. Sasikala into the NDA fold, Murugan indicated that the decision rests with NDA chairperson Amit Shah. This highlights ongoing strategic considerations within the alliance as they prepare for upcoming elections.

The panthakkaal ceremony underscores the NDA's concerted efforts to mobilize support and organize a successful rally, aiming to bolster their campaign momentum in Tamil Nadu. With high expectations for turnout and prominent leadership involvement, this event sets the stage for a significant political gathering in the region.
