BJP Unveils Candidate List for Upcoming Puducherry Legislative Assembly Elections
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) officially announced its roster of nine candidates on Saturday for the forthcoming Puducherry Legislative Assembly elections. The party is contesting these crucial polls in a strategic alliance with the All India NR Congress, marking a significant development in the Union Territory's political landscape.
Central Election Committee Finalizes Candidates
The BJP's Central Election Committee convened on March 18 to deliberate and finalize candidates for multiple poll-bound states, including Puducherry. This meeting resulted in the carefully curated list of nominees who will represent the party across various constituencies in the territory.
Detailed Candidate Allocations Across Constituencies
According to the official announcement, the BJP has allocated candidates to key constituencies as follows:
- A Namassivayam will contest from the Mannadipet constituency
- E Theeppainthan has been nominated for Oussoudu (SC) constituency
- PML Kalyanasundaram will represent the party from Kalapet
- VP Ramalingame has been selected for Raj Bhavan constituency
- A Johnkumar will contest from Mudaliarpet
- Embalam R Selvam has been nominated for Manavely
- GNS Rajasekaran will represent the party from Thirunallar

Election Commission Completes EVM and VVPAT Randomization
In parallel developments, the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced on Saturday the successful completion of the first randomization process for Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs). This crucial preparatory step covers the upcoming 2026 assembly elections scheduled for Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry.
The ECI has established a comprehensive transparency protocol whereby, once the final list of contesting candidates is formally prepared, complete records of both the first and second randomized EVMs and VVPATs will be shared with all candidates. This measure ensures complete transparency and integrity throughout the electoral process.
Additional Randomization for Bye-Elections
Furthermore, the Election Commission has concluded the randomization process for upcoming bye-elections in Goa, Karnataka, Nagaland, and Tripura. These states are scheduled to conduct polls on April 9, with both EVMs and VVPATs now fully randomized and prepared for the voting process.
The simultaneous completion of candidate nominations by political parties and technical preparations by the Election Commission indicates that electoral machinery is moving forward systematically across multiple states and Union Territories, with Puducherry emerging as a significant battleground in the BJP's electoral strategy.
