Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Kartikeya Sharma launched a sharp attack on the Congress party and the INDIA alliance on Saturday, accusing them of deliberately circulating misinformation about the newly passed Viksit Bharat Rozgar Ajeevika Guarantee Mission Gramin Bill, 2025 (VB G RAM G Act). The BJP leader asserted that the legislation is designed to bring transparency, ensure higher wages, and deliver justice to rural workers across the country.
Press Conference in Yamunanagar
Addressing media representatives at the Bharatiya Janata Party's district office in Yamunanagar, MP Sharma expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling NDA government for successfully steering the landmark Bill through Parliament. He claimed that the public, including the citizens of Haryana, has now completely understood the "face and character" of the Congress and its allies.
"Their habit of repeatedly making false statements has rendered them politically unreliable," Sharma stated. The event saw the presence of several prominent party figures, including OBC Morcha Working State President Madan Chauhan, BJP District President Rajesh Sapra, district general secretaries Narendra Singh Rana and Praveen Khadri, and media in-charge Kapil Manish Garg.
Allegations of Deliberate Misleading and Bill Benefits
Sharma alleged that Congress leaders are intentionally trying to confuse and mislead workers registered under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) by issuing baseless statements. He challenged the opposition, stating that if they had any genuine suggestions or concerns regarding the legislation, they should have raised them during parliamentary discussions.
"Instead, they flee from discussion and resort to walkouts, both in Parliament and in the Haryana Assembly, only to spread confusion later," he remarked.
Elaborating on the advantages of the new provisions, Sharma highlighted that Haryana already boasts the highest wage rate in India. With a mandated minimum daily wage of Rs 400, every worker in the state is set to earn at least Rs 10,000 more annually under the new framework. This would elevate the minimum yearly income for a worker to approximately Rs 50,000. He provided a comparison, noting that the daily wage is Rs 339 in neighbouring Punjab and Rs 236 in Himachal Pradesh.
Financial Allocation and Cracking Down on Corruption
The BJP MP presented financial data to underscore the government's commitment. He stated that from October 2014 to October 2025, workers in Haryana were paid a total of Rs 5,243 crore. In contrast, during the ten years of Congress-led UPA rule, the corresponding figure was only Rs 1,854 crore. He further pointed out that an additional Rs 1,000 crore has been allocated in the current financial year's budget specifically for employment generation.
Taking a dig at the previous UPA administration, Sharma cited the 2013 report by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, which exposed large-scale irregularities in the MNREGA scheme due to the absence of proper biometric verification and monitoring systems. He also referred to social audits conducted in Punjab that revealed over 10,000 cases of financial misappropriation, where no recovery or action was taken.
Sharma emphasized that the VB G RAM G Act was introduced precisely to plug such loopholes, prevent corruption, protect workers from exploitation, and guarantee that public funds reach the intended beneficiaries directly. Concluding his address, he assured that other important issues for the region, such as the proposed Ambala–Panchkula railway line and other Haryana-centric projects, would be raised in the upcoming budget session of Parliament.
