BJP MLA Suresh Khanna from Ayodhya made a controversial statement on Wednesday, asserting that individuals involved in the recent theft at the Ram Temple will face divine retribution in the form of cancer and a death sentence from God.
Controversial Remarks on Temple Theft
Speaking to reporters, Khanna said, "Those who have stolen from Lord Ram's temple will directly get cancer. It will be a death sentence from God." The remarks come after a theft incident at the under-construction Ram Temple in Ayodhya, where unidentified individuals allegedly stole donation boxes and other items.
The MLA did not provide any evidence for his claim but insisted that divine justice would prevail. He also urged the police to expedite the investigation and ensure the culprits are caught.
Political Reactions and Criticism
The statement has drawn sharp criticism from opposition parties. Samajwadi Party spokesperson said, "Such irresponsible comments trivialize serious issues like cancer and show a lack of respect for the judicial process." Congress leaders also condemned the remarks, calling them unscientific and inflammatory.
However, some BJP supporters defended Khanna, arguing that his comments reflect the deep faith of devotees. District police officials confirmed that an FIR has been registered and investigations are ongoing.
Background of the Theft Incident
The theft at the Ram Temple site occurred late last week, with reports indicating that donation boxes were broken into and cash amounting to several lakh rupees was stolen. Security at the site has been tightened since the incident.
The Ram Temple, a flagship project of the BJP government, is under construction and is expected to be completed by 2027. The temple has been a focal point of political and religious discourse in India.
