BJP MLA Levels Serious Allegations Against Himachal CM Over AI Summit Protest

In a significant political development, Himachal Pradesh BJP state media in-charge and MLA Randhir Sharma has launched a scathing attack on the state government and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. On Saturday, Sharma directly linked them to the controversy surrounding the February 20 AI Impact Summit-2026 held in New Delhi, where Indian Youth Congress (IYC) workers staged a shirtless protest.

Allegations of Anti-National Behavior and Government Complicity

Sharma described the protest action as "deeply irresponsible and anti-national", emphasizing the gravity of the incident at an international forum. He highlighted that the global event, hosted by the Central government, was attended by delegates from over 100 countries with the primary aim of showcasing India's technological leadership on the world stage. "Such actions tarnished the country's image, not any political party," he stated unequivocally, underscoring the national embarrassment caused by the protest.

Demand for High-Level Probe and Specific Accusations

The BJP leader has demanded a comprehensive investigation by a high-level Central agency into the entire matter, specifically calling for scrutiny of the Chief Minister's office role. Sharma made several specific allegations, claiming that some of the protesters were accommodated at Himachal Sadan in Delhi and later provided protection within the state after an FIR was filed against them in New Delhi. He further condemned what he described as obstruction by Himachal Pradesh Police during Delhi Police's action in Shimla district to arrest three IYC members involved in the protest.

Accusations of Political Manipulation and Procedural Misuse

In his most serious charge, Sharma alleged that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was the "mastermind" behind the entire episode. He accused the CM of misusing Assembly procedures for political purposes, particularly referencing the budget session that began on February 16. According to Sharma, established conventions were deliberately bypassed to prioritize a resolution on the revenue deficit grant, which was debated and passed before the House was abruptly adjourned. This, he claimed, demonstrated a pattern of procedural manipulation for political gain.

The allegations come at a sensitive time in Himachal Pradesh politics and raise serious questions about government accountability and the appropriate use of state resources. The controversy has now expanded beyond the initial protest to encompass broader concerns about governance and political conduct in the state.
