Indian Army's Romeo Force and SOG Poonch Seize Terrorist Arms Cache in J&K Cave Operation

In a significant counter-terrorism operation, the Indian Army's Romeo Force, in collaboration with the Special Operations Group (SOG) Poonch, successfully recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition belonging to terrorists. The recovery was made from a concealed cave located in Gani village within the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. This joint operation was specifically aimed at neutralizing terrorist threats and preventing potential infiltration attempts along the sensitive Line of Control (LoC).

High Alert in Sensitive Border Region

Poonch district, situated along the border, is recognized as a highly sensitive area where security forces maintain a state of constant high alert to effectively counter cross-border threats. The Indian Army and SOG Poonch have been conducting regular and intensive counter-terror operations across this region to ensure security and stability.

Recent Successes in Counter-Terror Operations

This latest recovery follows a series of successful operations that have dealt a severe blow to terror infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. Over the past 20 days, the Indian Army reported the elimination of six terrorists across the Jammu region. Key operations include:

  • Operation KIYA: On February 4, two terrorists were killed in the Jophar Forest area of Basantgarh.
  • Operation Trashi-I: Another terrorist was neutralized in the Dichhar area of Kishtwar, with three more terrorists eliminated during subsequent cordon and search operations in Kishtwar.

Additionally, security forces successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control in the Sunderbani sector, with alert troops preventing the bid. In all these operations, a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered, underscoring the effectiveness of the security measures.

Focus on Forested and Mountainous Terrain

Operation Trashi-I, launched in January, has concentrated on forested and mountainous areas of Kishtwar, including Chatroo, Sonnar, Dolgam, and Dichhar. This operation has involved multiple cordon and search efforts, highlighting the strategic approach to combating terrorism in challenging terrains.

The continuous efforts by the Indian Army and associated forces demonstrate a robust commitment to maintaining security and countering terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir, with this latest arms cache recovery marking another critical step in safeguarding the region.
