Amit Shah Arrives in Assam for Key Political Engagements

Union Home Minister Amit Shah landed in Assam on Saturday evening, shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his two-day visit to the state and departed for West Bengal, another region gearing up for elections. This strategic timing underscores the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) focused efforts to secure a third consecutive term in the upcoming assembly polls, which are anticipated to occur in April for the 126 constituencies, marking the first election since the 2023 delimitation exercise.

Reception and Informal Meetings

Upon his arrival at the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Shah was warmly welcomed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other senior officials. The home minister proceeded to spend the night at the Kainadhara State Guest House, where he engaged in informal discussions with the BJP's top leadership to deliberate on campaign strategies and party coordination for the impending elections.

Inauguration of Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital

On Sunday morning, Shah is scheduled to inaugurate the Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), a significant development in the state's healthcare infrastructure. This new institute, established by upgrading the Kalapahar TB Hospital, becomes the second medical college in the state capital after the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, aiming to enhance medical services and education in the region.

Youth Convention and Departure Plans

Following the inauguration, Shah will address the 'Yuva Shakti Samaroh', a youth convention organized by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the BJP's youth wing. The event is expected to attract over one lakh participants, with Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia emphasizing its role in advancing a Viksit (developed) and Aatmanirbhar (self-reliant) Assam. An official confirmed that Shah will depart from the state after this convention, wrapping up his brief but impactful visit.
