Akhilesh Yadav Honors Kanshi Ram's Legacy on 92nd Birth Anniversary

Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav paid heartfelt floral tributes to BSP founder Kanshi Ram on Sunday, marking his 92nd birth anniversary. In a statement issued from Lucknow, Yadav lauded Kanshi Ram as an Indian statesman and social reformer who fundamentally transformed the political landscape for marginalized communities.

Securing a Respectable Position for Bahujans

Akhilesh Yadav emphasized that Kanshi Ram's lifelong mission was to secure a dignified and respectable position for 'bahujans'—a term encompassing Dalits, backward classes, and other oppressed groups—within both Indian politics and society at large. He highlighted Kanshi Ram's foundational work, noting, "He founded BAMCEF in 1971 and the Bahujan Samaj Party in 1984, creating powerful platforms to advocate for the rights and upliftment of the bahujan samaj."

Recounting Kanshi Ram's contributions, Akhilesh pointed out that it was his strategic vision that mobilized like-minded individuals from government services and Dalit communities, paving a crucial path toward social emancipation. "Kanshi Ram ji's efforts were instrumental in bringing together diverse voices to challenge systemic inequalities," Yadav stated.

Historic Alliance and Political Impact

The Samajwadi Party leader also reflected on the significant political alliance forged in 1991 between Kanshi Ram and Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav. "This partnership struck a new chord between the Dalit community and backward classes, leading to the formation of a government in Uttar Pradesh," Akhilesh remarked. He added that it was the Samajwadi Party that facilitated Kanshi Ram's entry into the Lok Sabha, supporting his election from the Etawah parliamentary constituency in 1991.

"The SP has always accorded him honour and respect, and this historical collaboration laid the groundwork for future political movements aimed at social justice," Yadav asserted in his statement.

PDA's Role in Current and Future Politics

Akhilesh Yadav connected Kanshi Ram's legacy to contemporary political strategies, particularly highlighting the Samajwadi Party's PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) initiative. He claimed that PDA provided substantial strength to neglected and marginalized sections during the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. "The real impact of this unity will be fully realized once the BJP is dislodged from power in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections," Yadav predicted.

Expressing confidence in upcoming political shifts, he added, "This change will happen soon because the PDA, which includes the bahujan samaj, is deeply committed to ensuring a change of guard in UP."

Statewide Tributes and Remembrances

Across Uttar Pradesh, various events were organized to commemorate Kanshi Ram's birth anniversary. At the Samajwadi Party headquarters in Lucknow, a special ceremony saw floral tributes paid by prominent figures including sitting MP RK Chaudhary, former leader of opposition Ram Govind Chaudhary, and cabinet minister Rajendra Chaudhary. They collectively recalled Kanshi Ram's enduring contributions to state politics.

In Muzaffarnagar's Shamli district, senior party functionary Prof Sudhir Panwar led an event where local leaders spoke extensively about Kanshi Ram's political legacy and his role in advocating for Dalit rights. Meanwhile, in Lucknow, party city unit chief Faqir Siddiqui and general secretary Gaurav Singh Yadav offered tributes at the district unit office in Kaiserbagh.

Another significant gathering was organized by the Baba Sahab Ambedkar Vahini of the Samajwadi Party, where national general secretary Rambabu Sudarshan highlighted Kanshi Ram's pivotal role in bringing national attention to the plight of the Dalit community. "His work was not just political; it was a movement for social justice that continues to inspire," Sudarshan noted.

These commemorations underscore the lasting influence of Kanshi Ram's vision, as political leaders across party lines acknowledge his efforts in reshaping India's socio-political fabric to be more inclusive and representative of its diverse population.
