Akhilesh Yadav Launches Fierce Attack on BJP, Labels It a 'Gang'
In a strongly worded critique, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav on Sunday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of operating "not as a political party but as a gang". The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister made these remarks while addressing the media after the Vision India programme in Mumbai, where he leveled multiple allegations against the ruling party.
Allegations of Religious Disrespect and Development Stalling
Yadav pointed to a specific incident during the Magh Mela in Prayagraj, where he claimed a Shankaracharya was prevented from taking a holy dip in the Ganga and subsequently faced humiliation. He further alleged that attempts were made to frame the religious leader in fabricated cases, highlighting what he described as systematic disrespect towards spiritual figures.
Turning to development issues, the SP chief asserted that the BJP government had halted the construction of a major museum dedicated to Chhatrapati Shivaji in Agra. This project, originally proposed during the Samajwadi Party's tenure, was estimated to cost approximately Rs 300 crore. Yadav emphasized that this move represented a deliberate obstruction of cultural and historical initiatives.
Electoral Concerns and Future Promises
With assembly elections approaching in five states, Akhilesh Yadav called upon the Election Commission of India to ensure free and fair polls. He expressed concerns about potential collusion between the Election Commission, the ruling party, and administrative bodies, suggesting that such alliances could lead to electoral manipulation.
Looking ahead, Yadav announced that if the Samajwadi Party regains power in Uttar Pradesh, the government would develop a 1,000-acre park in the name of Chhatrapati Shivaji. He also reiterated the party's commitment to uniting marginalized communities under the PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) framework, aiming to represent victims, the oppressed, and those facing injustice.
Political Alliances and Support
In a show of solidarity, the former UP chief minister declared that the Samajwadi Party would extend its support to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, expressing hope for her re-election. This statement underscores ongoing efforts to build opposition unity against the BJP.
The press conference was attended by several prominent figures, including Maharashtra SP president and MLA Abu Asim Azmi, MP Rajeev Rai, and former UP minister Abhishek Mishra, signaling a coordinated political stance.
Akhilesh Yadav's remarks reflect escalating tensions in Indian politics, with accusations of religious insensitivity, stalled development, and electoral integrity dominating the discourse as election season intensifies.
