Akhilesh Yadav Launches Scathing Attack on Election Commission and BJP Over Voter List Concerns
Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav has launched a sharp and direct attack on the Election Commission of India and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, alleging a deliberate "conspiracy" to delete voters' names from electoral rolls to create an atmosphere of fear and intimidation ahead of crucial elections. The former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh made these serious allegations during a media briefing in Lucknow on Wednesday following an extensive daylong visit to Kanpur.
Allegations of Electoral Malpractice and Institutional Bias
Akhilesh Yadav claimed with conviction that the Election Commission was "acting in complete tandem with the BJP" and failing utterly to take any meaningful action against those individuals who are allegedly removing legitimate names from voters' lists using forged signatures and fraudulent methods. He expressed deep frustration, stating that despite his party's "PDA Praharis" having identified multiple such instances of electoral manipulation, no corrective or punitive measures have been initiated by the authorities.
Development Vision and Industrial Revival Promises
Outlining an ambitious and comprehensive development roadmap for Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav declared that if the Samajwadi Party is voted back to power, his administration would prioritize the creation of a dynamic Kanpur–Etawah–Kannauj "trade triangle" specifically designed to boost industrial growth, generate employment, and stimulate economic activity across the region. He made a firm commitment to revive the iconic and historically significant Lal Imli textile mill, promising that Kanpur would reclaim its proud identity as a major industrial hub under SP governance.
The SP president highlighted several key infrastructure and development projects that were initiated during the previous Samajwadi Party government, including:
- The Kanpur Metro rail project
- Major power plants in Panki and Ghatampur
- A modern Amul dairy processing plant
Criticism of BJP Governance and Policy Failures
In a sweeping critique of the current BJP-led state government, Akhilesh Yadav alleged widespread and systemic corruption, a noticeable and dangerous deterioration in law and order, and a complete failure to clean the state's rivers despite substantial budget allocations specifically earmarked for environmental and sanitation projects. He referenced recent controversies involving alleged illegal activities and significant irregularities within the health sector, claiming that the general public, particularly the poor and marginalized communities, are rapidly losing faith in public institutions due to governance failures.
Focus on Women's Safety and Education Sector Concerns
Akhilesh Yadav emphasized that women's safety remains a major and unaddressed concern across Uttar Pradesh, citing alarming data from the National Crime Records Bureau. He alleged that crime incidents, including those against women, are rising even in high-profile and supposedly secure constituencies. Furthermore, he accused the current government of deliberately neglecting "Shiksha Mitras" (para-teachers), stating that their honorarium remains significantly lower than the levels provided during the Samajwadi Party regime. He promised justice, dignity, and substantially better compensation for these educators if his party returns to power.
Healthcare System Failures and Access Issues
On the critical issue of public healthcare, Akhilesh Yadav alleged that government hospitals are failing catastrophically to provide affordable and accessible treatment to citizens, thereby forcing the poor and economically vulnerable to seek prohibitively costly private medical care. He framed this as a fundamental failure of the state's duty toward its most disadvantaged residents.
