Two people were killed in separate tree-fall incidents in Mumbai as heavy rains lashed the city on July 5 and early July 6, according to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials. This brings the total death toll from such incidents to three since June 30.
Details of the Incidents
The first incident occurred in the Andheri area late on July 5, where a tree collapsed on a pedestrian. The second took place in the early hours of July 6 in the Dadar locality, claiming another life. Rescue and clearance operations were promptly undertaken at all locations after complaints were received, BMC officials added.
Impact of Heavy Rains
Mumbai has been experiencing continuous heavy rainfall since June 30, leading to waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and an increased risk of tree falls. The civic body has urged residents to stay indoors and avoid venturing near trees or unstable structures during the downpour.
BMC Response and Advisory
BMC teams have been deployed across the city to clear fallen trees and debris. Officials stated that emergency helplines are operational and that all complaints are being addressed on a priority basis. Citizens are advised to report any hazardous situations immediately.
