A road rage incident in Bihar's Siwan district turned fatal on Wednesday evening when a 28-year-old man was shot dead and his father sustained critical injuries. The incident occurred near the Laxmipur-Andar Dhala overbridge under the Town police station area.
Victim's Political Connections
According to police sources, the deceased, identified as Harsh Kumar Singh, was the nephew (bhanja) of former MLC and BJP leader Manoj Kumar Singh. His father, Chandan Singh, was critically injured in the firing and has been referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) after initial treatment.
Police Response
Upon receiving information, Superintendent of Police Puran Kumar Jha, Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ajay Kumar, and Town Station House Officer Avinash Kumar arrived at the crime scene. SDPO Ajay Kumar Singh stated, "The firing took place around 6pm near Kamala Press. Father and son were critically injured and rushed to the hospital, where the son succumbed. The father remains critical and has been referred to Patna for better treatment. Police are investigating and conducting raids to identify and arrest the culprits."
Sequence of Events
According to police, Chandan was on his way to attend a tilak ceremony with his son Harsh. They had parked their vehicle by the roadside and were waiting for other family members when a minor collision occurred between their car and another vehicle. A brief argument escalated, and the attackers opened indiscriminate fire. Harsh was hit by multiple bullets and died on the spot, while Chandan collapsed with serious injuries.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects and are examining CCTV footage from the area to piece together the events leading to the shooting.
