In a significant enforcement action, a 29-year-old Yemeni national has been detained by central agency personnel in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for allegedly overstaying in India for nearly nine years. The individual, identified as Binashikhabubkr Mohammed Ahmed Ali, had been residing in the city for over a year without informing local authorities, raising serious security and immigration concerns.
Details of the Overstay and Visa Violations
According to official reports, Ali first entered India in 2015 on a double-entry visa to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) course at a college in Bengaluru. However, his academic journey took a turn when he failed all his subjects, leading him to discontinue his education in 2017. Authorities confirmed that his double-entry visa expired in March 2017, and his passport lapsed in November 2019. Despite this, Ali continued to stay in India without obtaining any visa extensions or valid travel documents, blatantly violating immigration laws.
Police Response and Investigation
Police Commissioner Pravin Pawar emphasized the seriousness of the case, stating, "We have taken serious cognisance of this foreign national overstaying in the city. Our teams will carry out fresh screening of the foreign students to check if anyone is staying beyond the permissible period." The city police's anti-terrorism branch, under the leadership of Inspector Rajesh Mayekar, initiated thorough documentation of Ali's overstay. Mayekar noted, "He was detained, and details regarding his entry, stay, and travel history are being verified and documented. We found that his family regularly sent him money."
Legal Procedures and Deportation Plans
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ratnakar Navale outlined the next steps, explaining that after gathering all necessary information, authorities will initiate further legal procedures. "A restriction notice will be issued to him as per due process, following which steps will be taken to deport him to his home country. Till then, Begunpura area police station will monitor him," Navale said. This case highlights the ongoing efforts by Indian authorities to crack down on immigration violations and ensure compliance with visa regulations.
