In a shocking incident that has rattled the town of Jamkhed in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district, wrestler-turned-criminal Sagar Moholkar was grievously injured in a brazen shooting on Wednesday evening. The Jamkhed police have launched a comprehensive investigation but are yet to make any arrests or establish a clear motive behind the attack that left Moholkar fighting for his life.
Details of the Violent Attack
According to Inspector Dashrath Chaudhary of the Jamkhed police, the incident occurred around 7:30 PM on Wednesday, March 4, in Noorani Colony. Two masked assailants riding a motorcycle fired seven rounds at Moholkar as he was walking home on foot. Four bullets struck Moholkar in critical areas including his neck, chest, stomach, and back, while three rounds missed their target entirely.
The injured criminal was initially rushed to a hospital in Ahmednagar district before being transferred to a specialized medical facility in Pune for advanced treatment. Police officials confirm that Moholkar has undergone surgery and is now in stable condition, though he remains under medical supervision as he recovers from his severe injuries.
Police Investigation and Suspect Identification
The Jamkhed police have made significant progress in their investigation despite the challenges. Based on CCTV footage that clearly captures the two masked men firing at Moholkar, along with other investigative clues gathered at the scene, authorities have successfully identified the assailants.
"We have deployed five specialized teams to trace and apprehend the suspects," Inspector Chaudhary stated. "A clearer understanding of the motive behind this brutal attack will emerge once we have these individuals in custody." The officer declined to provide specific details about the identified suspects to avoid compromising the ongoing investigation.
Sagar Moholkar's Criminal Background
The victim of this attack is no stranger to controversy and criminal activity. Sagar Moholkar, who walked out of prison on bail in January, has five serious criminal cases registered against him, including two murder charges. His criminal record also includes cases of extortion, attempted murder, and assault.
Moholkar recently made headlines when he publicly slapped Pune gangster Nilesh Ghaywal during a wrestling event at Andarud village in Dharashiv district on April 11, 2025. The altercation led to the Dharashiv police registering a case against Moholkar, adding to his already extensive criminal portfolio.
Possible Motives Under Investigation
Police are exploring multiple angles to determine what prompted this violent attack. Inspector Chaudhary revealed that investigators are considering several possibilities:
- Financial disputes or money-related conflicts
- Past rivalries or personal vendettas
- Retaliation for previous criminal activities
- Gang-related tensions in the region
"Moholkar is known to have a short temper and frequently engages in arguments," Chaudhary noted, suggesting that his personality and lifestyle may have contributed to the attack. The police are examining all aspects of Moholkar's criminal associations and personal conflicts to piece together the complete picture.
Legal Proceedings and Next Steps
The Jamkhed police have registered a formal case under Section 109 (attempted murder) and Section 3 read with Section 25 of the Arms Act in connection with the shooting incident. However, investigators have not yet been able to record Moholkar's official statement due to his medical condition and ongoing recovery.
As the investigation continues, authorities remain focused on apprehending the two masked assailants while simultaneously working to understand the complex web of criminal relationships that may have led to this violent episode in Jamkhed.
