The deceased has been identified as Savithri, who had been working as a daily-wage labourer for the past month at a plantation owned by Chaitanya at Golthila in Ariyadka village of Puttur. She had been residing in an old house within the plantation premises. According to a complaint filed by her 75-year-old father, Tippa, Savithri had previously informed him about ongoing marital disputes with her husband, Bairappa.
Discovery and Immediate Aftermath
On Friday, a relative contacted Tippa over the phone, informing him that Bairappa had allegedly stabbed Savithri to death and attempted suicide. Tippa rushed to the spot and found his daughter lying in a pool of blood on a mud road within the rubber plantation. A knife was discovered next to the body, indicating the violent nature of the attack.
Preliminary Investigation Findings
Preliminary inquiries by authorities revealed that Bairappa allegedly attacked Savithri with a knife, causing fatal injuries. Following the assault, he attempted to end his own life by slashing his neck. Locals immediately intervened and shifted him to the Puttur government hospital for urgent medical treatment.
