Woman dies, 5 hurt as auto overturns in Gandhinagar

A tragic road accident in Gujarat's Gandhinagar district claimed the life of a young woman and left five others injured on Sunday evening. The incident involved an autorickshaw that overturned after hitting a roadside pillar.

Pilgrimage Trip Ends in Tragedy

The victims, residents of Kalyanpur in Kalol taluka, had travelled to Randheja village for a temple visit. The group included 22-year-old Aarti Patwa, her mother Usha Patwa, and four other individuals from Kalol. They were returning from their religious outing in the same autorickshaw when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.

Details of the Fatal Crash

According to the Pethapur police, the accident occurred late in the evening as the auto was travelling from Randheja Crossroads towards Rupal. The driver was reportedly speeding and driving negligently. This caused him to lose control and collide with a pillar on the side of the road, resulting in the three-wheeler overturning.

All six passengers sustained injuries in the crash. Aarti Patwa suffered severe head trauma. She was rushed to Gandhinagar Civil Hospital via a 108 emergency ambulance service. Doctors, however, declared her dead upon arrival.

Aftermath and Police Action

Aarti's mother, Usha, and the four other passengers received treatment for minor injuries. The family is from Somnath Society-1 in Kalol, where Aarti's father, Asharam Patwa, works as a daily-wage labourer. Aarti was one of his six children.

The Pethapur police have registered a formal case against the autorickshaw driver for rash and negligent driving leading to death. An investigation into the exact circumstances of the accident is currently underway. This incident highlights the persistent dangers of reckless driving on Indian roads, especially for passengers in often overcrowded and less-protected vehicles like autorickshaws.
