Woman Arrested for Stealing Gold Jewellery from Bus Passenger in Chennai
In a recent incident in Chennai, police have made an arrest in connection with the theft of gold jewellery from a passenger traveling on a city bus. The victim, identified as Latha, a 58-year-old resident of Trichy, was on her way to visit her daughter in Madipakkam when the crime occurred.
Details of the Theft
Latha had arrived at Kelambakkam and boarded a Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus to reach her destination. After arriving at her daughter's house, she checked her bag and discovered that approximately 79 grams of gold jewellery, which was stored along with cash, was missing. The theft prompted her to file a complaint with the Madipakkam police, who immediately registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Investigation and Arrest
During the probe, authorities determined that the theft took place while Latha was traveling on the city bus. Further investigation led to the identification of the accused, Maheswari, a 38-year-old resident of Ganapathi Colony in East Tambaram. Police described Maheswari as a habitual offender with a history of similar crimes.
In a swift action, police arrested Maheswari and recovered about 6 sovereigns of gold jewellery and 3 lakh rupees in her possession. The recovery of these items has provided crucial evidence in the case, and authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover any additional details or potential accomplices.
