The Jalandhar police have arrested two travel agents, including a woman, who were proclaimed offenders in a cheating case. The accused were wanted for allegedly duping people by promising them foreign visas and jobs.
Details of the Arrest
The arrests were made by a special police team from Jalandhar. The accused have been identified as Gurpreet Singh and his wife, Harpreet Kaur. They were operating a travel agency in the city and had been absconding since a case was registered against them in 2022.
According to the police, the duo used to lure people with promises of high-paying jobs abroad and then take hefty sums of money from them. However, they neither provided the visas nor returned the money. Several victims had filed complaints against them.
Legal Proceedings
The police had declared them proclaimed offenders after they failed to appear in court. A special team was formed to track them down. They were finally arrested from a hideout in Ludhiana. The police have recovered several documents and stamps used for forging visas.
Further investigation is underway to trace other accomplices and uncover the full extent of their fraudulent activities. The accused have been produced before a local court and sent to police custody.
The police have urged other victims to come forward and file complaints. They also advised people to verify the credentials of travel agents before making any payments.
