Bodies of Woman and Three Children Found Tied Together in Muzaffarpur River
Police recovered the bodies of a woman and her three young children near the Gandak river in Muzaffarpur district on Thursday. The discovery sparked immediate anger among local residents who gathered at the scene.
The four family members had been missing from their home for four full days before this grim discovery. Police found all four bodies tied together with a single dupatta near the Chandwara Bridge in the Ahiyapur police station area.
Victims Identified
Authorities identified the woman as 28-year-old Mamta Devi. Her three children were named as Kriti (2 years old), Aditya (7 years old), and Ankush (5 years old). The family lived in rented accommodation in Muzaffarpur's Sipahapur locality.
Conflicting Theories Emerge
While preliminary police findings suggest possible suicide, the victim's family has made serious allegations of abduction followed by murder. This contradiction has created tension in the community.
The woman's husband told police that his wife left home with their three children on January 10. She said she was going to the market but never returned home.
Two days later, on January 12, the husband received a disturbing phone call from an unknown number. The caller reportedly told him, "I am going to marry your wife. Don't find us." The husband immediately filed a formal police complaint that same day.
Police Investigation Intensifies
Muzaffarpur Senior Superintendent of Police Kantesh Mishra addressed the media about the ongoing investigation. "The post-mortem report will reveal whether the woman and her children were killed and dumped by the riverside or whether they died by suicide," Mishra stated.
Police have formed a special investigation team to handle this sensitive case. Officers have already apprehended the person using the mobile number mentioned by the husband. This individual was caught from the Aurai police station area.
Investigators discovered that the woman's sister-in-law had also spoken on this same phone number. Police are now examining the relationship between the woman's husband and his brother's wife as part of their investigation.
Multiple Persons in Custody
Authorities have taken three people into custody for questioning:
- The woman's husband
- The husband's brother's wife
- Another individual connected to the case
All three are currently undergoing interrogation as police work to unravel what happened to the family.
Background of the Family
The couple had been married for seven years and had three children together. The husband works as an auto-rickshaw driver to support his family.
Neighbors Provide Additional Information
According to local residents who knew the family, the woman was allegedly having an affair. Neighbors claim she eloped with this same person on January 10, the day she disappeared with her children.
The alleged partner then called the husband on January 12, claiming they planned to marry. This phone call prompted the husband to file the police complaint that initiated the investigation.
Police continue to investigate all angles of this tragic case as the community demands answers about what happened to the woman and her three young children.
