The incident, which occurred within the limits of Birra police station, left four individuals injured, including a senior Congress functionary, with one victim reported to be in critical condition.

According to eyewitness accounts, the wedding procession, or baraat, was moving along the roadside when guests had gathered in a cluster to dance to DJ music. Suddenly, a vehicle described locally as a capsule vehicle veered off course and crashed directly into the crowd. Police officials confirmed that four people sustained injuries in the collision. One of the victims was referred to a hospital in Bilaspur due to the seriousness of their condition, while the remaining three are receiving treatment at local medical facilities. Among those injured is Tara Chand Dewangan, the district Congress president of the neighbouring Sarangarh-Bilaigarh region, who suffered injuries from the impact.
