A devastating fire, allegedly sparked by wedding fireworks, tore through Chamua village in the Narkatiaganj block of West Champaran district, Bihar, on Wednesday night, resulting in a fatality and the complete destruction of multiple homes.

The victim, identified as 45-year-old Dhoorendra Yadav from Saidpur Chamua, sustained severe burn injuries in the blaze and later succumbed to them. According to local villagers, the fire broke out during a wedding ceremony when fireworks were set off. Sparks from the display are believed to have landed on nearby thatched houses, quickly igniting them.
The fire spread with alarming speed, engulfing five thatched houses within minutes. Residents attempted to combat the flames using buckets and hand pumps, but the intensity of the fire rendered their efforts ineffective, leading to widespread devastation.
Fire Brigade Response and Official Statements
Fire officer Khushboo Kumari from Bettiah reported that a fire brigade team was dispatched immediately upon receiving the alert. "It took nearly three hours to bring the fire under control," she stated. "By then, five houses had been completely gutted, and one life was lost. Preliminary findings indicate that wedding fireworks may have caused the fire, and a detailed investigation is currently underway."
