Varanasi Police Commissioner Issues Strict Directives to Wedding Venues and DJ Operators
In a decisive move to address growing concerns over noise pollution and traffic congestion, Varanasi Police Commissioner Mohit Agrawal has mandated strict compliance with prescribed norms for marriage lawns, banquet halls, hotels, and DJ operators. During a crucial meeting held on Tuesday evening, Commissioner Agrawal warned that any violations would result in severe legal action, including potential licence cancellations and penalties under relevant laws.
Enhanced Parking and Traffic Management Protocols
Commissioner Agrawal emphasized the importance of proper parking arrangements to prevent road obstructions during wedding events. Operators of marriage lawns, banquets, and hotels have been instructed to ensure that all vehicles belonging to guests and participants are parked exclusively in the designated parking areas as outlined in approved venue maps. Any misuse of these parking spaces for other purposes will lead to immediate actions such as licence cancellation. To facilitate smooth traffic flow, lawn operators must deploy three to four employees specifically for managing outside parking and must coordinate with traffic police to pre-determine wedding procession routes, thereby avoiding any encroachment or traffic blockages on public roads.
Stringent Noise Control Measures for DJs and Band Operators
In an effort to curb excessive noise, DJ operators have been directed to adhere to a strict 10 PM deadline for stopping music and to ensure that sound levels do not exceed 80 decibels at any time. Additionally, band operators are prohibited from bursting firecrackers or engaging in activities that could endanger public safety. They must also use ropes during wedding processions to restrict their movement to only one-third of the road, keeping the remaining portion clear for regular traffic. This measure aims to minimize disruptions and maintain public order during festive occasions.
Legal Ramifications for Non-Compliance
Commissioner Agrawal made it clear that any failure to comply with these directives would attract strict legal action under multiple statutes, including the Motor Vehicles Act, the Noise Pollution Control Act, and the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). This comprehensive approach underscores the police department's commitment to enforcing regulations that protect community well-being and ensure public safety in Varanasi.
The proactive stance taken by the Varanasi police is expected to significantly reduce noise pollution and traffic-related issues during wedding seasons, fostering a more harmonious environment for residents and event attendees alike.
