Vadodara ANTF Zone Office Inaugurated by DGP Rao to Combat Drug Menace
In a significant move to strengthen the fight against narcotics, the Vadodara Zone office of the state police's Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) was officially inaugurated on Saturday. The ceremony was led by Director General of Police (DGP) K L N Rao, marking a pivotal step in Gujarat's ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking and abuse.
Expanding Anti-Drug Operations Across Gujarat
The Vadodara Zone is one of six ANTF zones established across the state, strategically positioned to enhance enforcement capabilities. The newly inaugurated office is located near the Food and Drugs Laboratory, adjacent to the MS University Polytechnic, providing a centralized base for operations in the region. This expansion underscores the state government's commitment to addressing the drug crisis through organized and targeted measures.
During the inauguration, DGP Rao addressed the media, emphasizing the government's dedication to eradicating the drug menace. He explained that the ANTF operates through four zones covering major cities, along with the Gandhinagar Zone and a dedicated border zone, ensuring comprehensive coverage across Gujarat. This multi-zonal approach aims to streamline efforts and improve coordination in drug-related cases.
Significant Seizures and Future Strategies
Rao highlighted the effectiveness of current enforcement, revealing that police in Vadodara have seized contraband worth approximately Rs 2,000 crore in 600 cases to date. These seizures demonstrate the scale of the drug trade in the area and the proactive role of law enforcement. Beyond strict enforcement, the DGP outlined a dual strategy that includes awareness campaigns to prevent drug abuse, targeting communities to educate them on the dangers of narcotics.
In addition to enforcement and prevention, the state government is working towards establishing rehabilitation centers to support individuals addicted to drugs. Separate facilities are planned for women and children, addressing specific needs and ensuring a holistic approach to recovery. This initiative reflects a broader vision to not only punish offenders but also provide pathways to rehabilitation for those affected by addiction.

The zonal offices of the ANTF are headed by officers of the rank of deputy superintendent of police, ensuring experienced leadership at the local level. At the state level, the task force is led by an officer of superintendent of police rank, coordinating efforts across zones to maintain a unified front against drug trafficking. This structured hierarchy is designed to enhance efficiency and accountability in anti-narcotics operations.
