UP STF Cracks Down on Fake Army Job Scam in Varanasi
The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has successfully dismantled a criminal gang that was impersonating Army officers to defraud unsuspecting individuals under the guise of providing employment. The operation, conducted late on Monday, resulted in the arrest of the gang's leader, Dharmendra Pandey, a resident of Chandauli district in Varanasi.
Arrest and Seizure Details
Dharmendra Pandey was apprehended near Vibhuti Enclave, Braj Enclave Colony, within the jurisdiction of the Bhelupur police station area. During the arrest, police authorities confiscated a significant amount of incriminating evidence, including two mobile phones, three Aadhaar cards, three PAN cards, two driving licenses with different addresses, three ATM cards, High School marksheets and certificates, and two fake ID cards of the Army.
Investigation and Intelligence Collaboration
The ASP STF Field Unit in Varanasi was specifically tasked with gathering intelligence and taking decisive action against this gang, which had been exploiting job-seekers by promising positions in the Army. A dedicated investigation team, led by Inspector Anil Kumar Singh, spearheaded the efforts. Military Intelligence officers played a crucial role by sharing vital information with the STF Field Unit in Varanasi about the gang's activities in the districts surrounding Varanasi.
Pandey was residing in a rented flat at Vibhuti Enclave Apartment, from where the investigation team executed his arrest. It was revealed that he had established connections with criminals from Bihar who were operating a job racket. To enhance his fraudulent scheme, Pandey forged an identity card of a Commanding Officer, Army Intelligence Alpha-1 (Colonel), which he used to lure job-seekers into his trap.
Modus Operandi and Financial Fraud
The gang's modus operandi involved promising aspirants lucrative jobs not only in the Army but also in railways, education departments, and paramilitary forces. They duped victims of substantial amounts of money, with lakhs of rupees being deposited into various bank accounts that Pandey had opened using fake Aadhaar and PAN cards. When unemployed youth failed to receive the promised jobs and demanded refunds, they were deceitfully told that they would be offered positions in another department, further prolonging the scam.
Legal Actions and Future Proceedings
A case has been registered against Dharmendra Pandey at the Bhelupur police station under Sections 319(2), 318(4), 338, 336(3), 340(2), and 337 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further legal proceedings will be conducted by the local police to ensure justice is served and to prevent similar fraudulent activities in the future.
