Major Drug Bust in Uttar Pradesh: STF Nabs Interstate Trafficker, Recovers 200 Kg Cannabis
The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has made a significant breakthrough in its crackdown on narcotics smuggling, arresting a key member of an interstate drug trafficking syndicate and seizing a massive consignment of ganja (cannabis). The operation, conducted on Tuesday, led to the recovery of 200 kilograms of the illicit substance, which police estimate has an international market value of approximately Rs 52 lakh.
Accused Identified and Apprehended
The arrested individual has been identified as Ajit Kumar, son of Bilas Yadav, a resident of Nalanda district in Bihar. According to STF officials, Kumar was apprehended from a service lane near HCL, falling under the jurisdiction of the Sushant Golf City police station in Lucknow. The arrest followed a specific tip-off regarding a large drug consignment originating from Odisha.
Acting swiftly on the intelligence, an STF team intercepted a trailer truck bearing a Jharkhand registration number. A thorough search of the vehicle, led by ASP Deepak Kumar Singh, uncovered the 200 kg cache of ganja cleverly concealed within a specially carved cavity in the trailer. In addition to the narcotics, authorities recovered several personal items from the accused, including a mobile phone, driving licence, debit card, and Rs 1,650 in cash.
Interstate Network and Modus Operandi Exposed
During interrogation, the accused provided crucial insights into the operations of the trafficking network. Ajit Kumar disclosed that the consignment had been loaded in Odisha under the instructions of two Jharkhand-based handlers, identified as Tipu and Tapan, who allegedly own the vehicle used in the smuggling operation.
The accused elaborated on the delivery mechanism, stating that the drugs were transported to designated locations based on instructions received via mobile communication. Once the consignment was en route, specific delivery points were shared with him. Kumar further admitted to having been involved in similar smuggling activities on three to four previous occasions, revealing a pattern of repeated engagement in the illicit trade.
"He was reportedly paid between Rs 40,000 to Rs 50,000 per trip for his role in transporting the narcotics," said ASP Deepak Kumar Singh, highlighting the financial incentives driving such criminal enterprises.
