The Uttar Pradesh government has given a significant boost to the state's security apparatus by approving a major financial outlay for advanced equipment. The state administration has sanctioned a total of ₹9.89 crore to strengthen the capabilities of the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) across Uttar Pradesh.
Breaking Down the Financial Sanction
The approved funds, which will be drawn from the 2025–26 state budget, are earmarked for the procurement of two types of critical security systems. The government has set a strict deadline for the utilisation of these funds, mandating that all expenditures must be completed by March 31, 2026. The procurement process will be handled by the Uttar Pradesh Police Security Headquarters, adhering strictly to MSME norms and the state's procurement rules.
Advanced Equipment for Field and Training
The first part of the approval involves the purchase of 10 liquid explosive detectors (LEDs). Each unit comes with a price tag of ₹45.40 lakh, bringing the total sanctioned amount for this procurement to ₹4.54 crore. This approval was granted by the Governor of Uttar Pradesh based on a formal proposal submitted by the UP Police Headquarters.
Simultaneously, the government has sanctioned funds for 10 multi-functional electronic detection systems (MFEDS). These systems are priced at ₹53.50 lakh per unit, with the total financial outlay for this purchase standing at ₹5.35 crore. The government orders explicitly state that no deviation from these sanctioned amounts will be permitted.
Strategic Deployment and Enhanced Capabilities
The newly acquired equipment is destined for multiple critical uses. The systems will be deployed for field operations, contingency response, and specialised training of personnel. While the liquid explosive detectors will be distributed to BDDS units across the state, the multi-functional electronic detection systems will be kept in reserve at the security headquarters. This reserve stock is intended for emergency deployment and ongoing training purposes.
A senior officer posted at the DGP Headquarters highlighted the importance of this upgrade. The officer stated that the Liquid Explosive Detectors and Multi-Functional Electronic Detection Systems would lead to a substantial enhancement in the operational capability of the Bomb Disposal and Detection Squads throughout Uttar Pradesh. This move is seen as a proactive step to modernise the state's security infrastructure and respond more effectively to potential threats.
