Gurgaon: A joint team of the drugs control department and the anti-narcotics cell (ANC) sealed an unlicensed medical store in Jharsa on Monday after a raid based on a complaint about the illegal sale of narcotics and medical drugs.
Details of the Raid
Officials also flagged the illegal sale of MTP (medical termination of pregnancy) kits, which are classified as Schedule H drugs under the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules. These can only be sold by licensed pharmacies on the prescription of a registered medical practitioner, and over-the-counter sales are strictly prohibited.
The raid was conducted by drugs control officers Amandeep Chauhan and Mukesh Kumar, along with other officials, who inspected Om Medical Store after receiving the complaint.
Seizure of Illegal Stock
During the inspection, the store's owner, Deepak, was found stocking a large quantity of allopathic medicines, including narcotic medicines, inside the shop and in his own car parked outside. Officials said the team seized 240 bottles of codeine cough syrup, 80 MTP kits, and 2,250 tablets of tramadol, along with codeine phosphate and triprolidine HCL syrup bottles.
Legal Action Taken
The stock was seized and samples were collected under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940. The store was sealed under Section 22(1)(d) of the Act to prevent further violations. Officials said the stock of codeine syrup and tramadol tablets was handed over to the ANC for registration of a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Further legal action will be taken against the owner under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and Rules thereunder, officials added. They emphasized that the illegal sale of abortion kits poses serious risks to women's health and can undermine efforts to improve the sex ratio in the state.
