In a significant crackdown on drug-related activities, the Ullal police have apprehended an individual on charges of selling cannabis. The arrest, made on Tuesday, followed a targeted operation based on specific intelligence.
Details of the Police Raid and Seizure
Acting on a credible tip-off, a team from the Ullal police station conducted a surprise raid near a railway track in the Talapady area of Someshwar, which falls under the Ullal taluk. The location of the operation, close to railway infrastructure, highlights the ongoing efforts to curb drug peddling in transit-adjacent zones.
The police successfully took one accused person into custody. During the raid, law enforcement officials confiscated a substantial quantity of 450 grams of ganja. The estimated street value of the seized narcotic is Rs 21,000. In addition to the drugs, the police also recovered Rs 650 in cash and a mobile phone, which are believed to be connected to the illicit trade.
Identity of the Accused and Modus Operandi
The arrested individual has been identified as Rajpal, aged 31. He is a resident of Juri Chandrapur village in the Hardohi district. According to the preliminary investigation by the police, Rajpal is accused of procuring ganja from his native village and then transporting it to sell to customers in the area. This pattern of sourcing drugs from one region and distributing them in another is a common challenge faced by authorities.
Legal Action Under the NDPS Act
The Ullal police have registered a formal case against the accused under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Specifically, sections 8(C) and 20(b) of the act have been invoked. Section 8(C) pertains to the prohibition of certain activities related to narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, while Section 20(b) deals with the possession, sale, purchase, or use of cannabis (ganja) and its derivatives. The registration of this case marks the beginning of the judicial process, and further investigation is underway.
This arrest underscores the continued vigilance of the Mangaluru police force in combating the menace of drug peddling and their commitment to acting on actionable intelligence to keep communities safe.
