Ujjain Cop Saves Youth from Suicide, Wins DGP Praise & Rs 10,000 Award
Ujjain Inspector Saves Life, Wins DGP Award

A routine patrol in Ujjain turned into a life-saving mission for a dedicated police inspector, whose swift response and training prevented a tragic suicide. The incident, which occurred on Monday night, has brought Inspector Amritlal Gawri, the in-charge of Nagda police station, both heartfelt gratitude and official recognition from the highest levels of the state police.

From Patrol to Rescue: A Father's Desperate Plea

Inspector Amritlal Gawri was on a patrol duty with his driver, managing with limited staff. As their vehicle passed through the Peepal Tiraha area, a distraught man suddenly ran in front of them. With little time for formalities, the man pleaded for help, revealing that his 20-year-old son had locked himself inside a room and was attempting to hang himself.

Acting immediately, Gawri and his driver rushed to the indicated row house. They found the front door locked. Peering through a window, they could see a second door and, alarmingly, the legs of the youth dangling. Without a second thought, Inspector Gawri broke through the first door, ignoring two barking pet dogs inside, and forced his way to the second door to reach the young man.

The Golden Hour: CPR and Quick Thinking Save a Life

"Immediately rushing to the house, we saw that the youth had already hanged himself," Inspector Gawri recounted. He quickly grabbed the youth, lifted him, and removed him from the noose. However, the young man's condition was critical, and family members began to panic.

It was here that Gawri's police training proved invaluable. Using the 'golden hour' treatment and CPR techniques learned during his service, the inspector administered immediate medical aid. "The victim was checked and immediately given CPR," he explained. His efforts were successful, and as soon as the youth's heartbeat and breathing resumed, Gawri arranged for his transfer to a nearby private hospital.

Recognition and Gratitude Follow Brave Act

Within a few hours of receiving treatment, the young man stabilized and later received counselling. The family, overwhelmed with relief, visited the police station both that night and the following morning to express their profound thanks to Inspector Gawri, whom they credited with saving their son's life.

The news of this courageous rescue reached the police headquarters in Bhopal. Impressed by his actions, Director General of Police Kailash Makwana issued orders awarding Inspector Amritlal Gawri a cash prize of Rs 10,000. The official citation praised Gawri for "displaying promptness, courage, sensitivity, and high-level efficiency" in the line of duty.

This incident highlights the critical role of police responsiveness and the life-saving impact of proper emergency training beyond traditional law enforcement.
