Udupi Police Issues 164 Challans in Transport Enforcement Drive

Udupi District Police Launches Comprehensive Transport Enforcement Campaign

In a significant move to enhance road safety and regulatory compliance, the Udupi district police have executed an extensive enforcement drive targeting public transport and commercial vehicles. The operation has resulted in substantial inspections and the issuance of multiple challans for various violations.

Major Bus Inspection Drive Uncovers Safety Violations

The police conducted a thorough inspection of 1,100 buses operating within the district. During this drive, authorities issued 108 challans for multiple violations, with a primary focus on the failure to install mandatory doors, which poses serious safety risks to passengers. This enforcement action highlights the police's commitment to ensuring that public transport vehicles adhere to essential safety standards.

To address ongoing operational concerns, including scheduling and other issues, a meeting with city bus owners has been scheduled. This crucial discussion will take place on Thursday at the deputy commissioner's office, aiming to foster collaboration and resolve practical challenges faced by transport operators.

Separate Drive Targets Mineral Transport Vehicles

In a parallel enforcement initiative, the police inspected 1,352 vehicles involved in the transportation of mines and minerals. This separate drive led to the issuance of 56 challans for violations such as overloading and the non-implementation of speed governors. Overloading not only jeopardizes vehicle stability but also contributes to road wear and increased accident risks, making this enforcement critical for public safety.

Continued Enforcement and Regulatory Oversight

Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar emphasized that these enforcement drives will continue in phases. The objective is to ensure the effective implementation of decisions made by the DC-led committee during meetings of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) and Road Safety Authority. These measures specifically target buses and trucks to uphold regulatory standards and enhance overall road safety.

Shankar further noted that the Regional Transport Office (RTO) is conducting parallel enforcement actions, reinforcing a coordinated approach to transport regulation. This multi-agency effort underscores a comprehensive strategy to monitor and improve compliance across the district's transport sector.

The enforcement drives in Udupi reflect a proactive stance by authorities to tackle safety and regulatory issues head-on, with ongoing inspections and stakeholder engagements set to shape a safer transport environment for all residents.
