Udaipur Double Murder: Elderly Woman, Grandson Brutally Killed, Villagers Demand Justice
Udaipur: Elderly woman, grandson murdered, son-in-law suspected

Tensions ran high for a second day in the Semari police station area of Udaipur's Salumber district on Sunday, following the horrific discovery of a double murder. An elderly woman and her young grandson were found brutally killed, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Gruesome Discovery Sparks Outrage

The victims have been identified as 65-year-old Gauri and her five-year-old grandson, Surendra. Their bodies with severe injuries were found on Saturday inside their home in Jahat Phala, near Gudasar village. The gruesome find prompted immediate outrage among family members and fellow villagers, who have taken a firm stand by refusing to conduct the last rites until justice is delivered.

Initial reports from the police suggested a possible robbery motive, citing that the assailant had amputated Gauri's legs to steal her silver anklets. However, further investigation revealed a critical twist: no valuable items were actually missing from the scene. This led authorities to suspect that the robbery was staged to mislead investigators, pointing towards a more sinister and premeditated crime.

Police Investigation and Suspect Focus

Salumber Superintendent of Police (SP) Rajesh Yadav visited the crime scene on Saturday morning with a forensic science team to collect evidence. SP Yadav emphasized that while the attack was made to look like a theft, the nature and severity of the injuries inflicted on the victims indicated a calculated and violent intent beyond mere robbery.

The police are actively pursuing the prime suspect in the case: Gangaram Meena, who is the son-in-law of the deceased woman. "We are actively pursuing leads and conducting raids across the district to arrest the suspect," stated SP Yadav. The double murder is believed to have occurred late on Friday night when the accused allegedly broke into the house.

Community Anger and Heightened Security

Anguished villagers and the grieving family are united in their demands: the immediate arrest of Gangaram Meena and financial compensation for the kin. The incident has left the community on edge, leading to a substantial police deployment at the scene to prevent any escalation of tensions.

Deputy SP Chandmal Singaria, along with officers from four police stations, was stationed in the area on Sunday to maintain law and order. According to eyewitness accounts, the attack took place while other family members were away attending a religious program in the neighbourhood, leaving the house vulnerable. Neighbours rushed to the home after hearing screams, only to find both victims with multiple stab wounds to the stomach and chest, as well as severe head injuries.

The police continue their investigation, working to piece together the exact sequence of events and the motive behind this brutal act that has shaken a quiet village in Rajasthan.
