Udaipur: Youth Killed, Friend Injured in Car Plunge into 12-Foot Pit Near Temple Turn
A young man lost his life and his friend sustained serious injuries when their car plunged into a 12-foot-deep pit late Tuesday night near the Hanumanji Temple turn in Khelgaon, under the Sukher police station area of Udaipur. The incident has sparked outrage among locals, who have long demanded safety improvements at this hazardous location.
Details of the Tragic Accident
The accident occurred around 11 PM as the duo was returning home. According to police reports, the car lost balance while negotiating the sharp turn and fell into the pit. The deceased has been identified as Himanshu Salvi, a resident of Bohra Ganeshji who operated a salon. His friend, Rahul Singh, was injured and has been admitted to GBH Hospital for treatment.
Sukher station house officer Bharat Yogi confirmed that Salvi died on the spot due to the impact. Preliminary investigations suggest the car was traveling at high speed, and upon losing control, the driver's neck struck the car door, leading to fatal injuries. Salvi's body has been shifted to the mortuary of MB Hospital for further procedures.
Second Fatality in Two Weeks at Same Spot
This tragic event marks the second fatality at the exact same location within the past 14 days. Earlier, another youth sustained critical injuries after his motorcycle fell into the pit and later succumbed during medical treatment. Police records indicate that several accidents have been reported at this turn, highlighting a persistent safety hazard.
Locals Blame Authorities for Inaction
Residents of the area have expressed frustration and anger, stating that they have repeatedly complained to the Udaipur Development Authority (UDA) about the dangerous turn. Their demands include:
- Installing barricades on both sides of the turn to prevent vehicles from falling.
- Placing warning signboards to alert drivers, especially at night.
- Implementing immediate safety measures to avoid further tragedies.
Despite these pleas, no action has been taken by the authorities. Locals note that while people living nearby are aware of the turn's dangers, it often proves fatal for outsiders who are unfamiliar with the area, particularly during nighttime when visibility is reduced.
