Kanpur Girl Succumbs to Injuries 17 Days After Brutal Jackal Attack

A tragic incident in Kanpur has resulted in the death of a seven-year-old girl, who fought for her life for 17 days after being critically injured in a jackal attack. The heartbreaking event occurred in Patti Mazra Lalpur village, located under the Kotwali area, and has left the local community in deep mourning.

Details of the Fatal Attack

The attack took place on March 2, when the young girl accompanied her father to the fields. While her father was engaged in work, a jackal, which was hiding in the field, launched a sudden and vicious assault on the child. The animal inflicted severe injuries before fleeing the scene as villagers rushed to the spot upon hearing the girl's desperate screams.

In a disturbing turn of events, the same jackal reportedly entered the village later and attacked a woman who was sitting outside her house. This second victim also sustained injuries, highlighting the aggressive and dangerous behavior of the animal.

Medical Treatment and Tragic Outcome

Both the girl and the woman were immediately taken to the Kaimganj community health centre for urgent medical attention. At the facility, they received initial treatment and were administered anti-rabies vaccinations as a precautionary measure against potential infection.

Despite these efforts, the young girl's condition began to deteriorate significantly. On Wednesday, she was referred to Lohia Hospital for more advanced care. Tragically, she passed away while en route to Saifai for further specialized treatment. The journey for advanced medical intervention proved too late, marking a sorrowful end to her 17-day struggle.

Official Statement and Health Measures

Vipin Singh, the superintendent of the health centre, provided clarity on the medical response, stating that the girl had received all necessary doses of the anti-rabies vaccine. This confirmation underscores the severity of the injuries sustained in the attack, which ultimately proved fatal despite the preventive measures taken.

The incident has raised concerns about wildlife encounters in rural areas and the importance of prompt medical intervention in such cases. The local authorities are likely to review safety protocols to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
