A devastating road accident on a national highway in Rajasthan's Udaipur district has resulted in two fatalities and left over a dozen people injured. The tragic collision, which also led to the discovery of a smuggling operation, occurred late on Wednesday night.
The Fatal Collision on Highway-48
A private bus traveling from Gorakhpur to Surat collided with a truck near Pipli-A village. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Rishabhdeo police station on the busy Highway-48. The impact of the crash was severe, instantly killing two individuals, one of whom was the bus driver. Thirteen other passengers sustained injuries of varying severity.
Illegal Consignment and Driver's Escape
During the subsequent inspection of the wreckage, police made a startling discovery. The luggage compartment of the bus contained wooden boxes filled with illegal liquor. Officials confirmed that the alcohol was being smuggled into the state of Gujarat. The police have seized the illicit consignment as part of their investigation.
In a separate development complicating the case, the driver of the truck involved in the accident fled the scene along with his vehicle. Authorities are now working to trace and apprehend the absconding driver.

A crane was deployed to move the severely damaged bus to the side of the road, allowing traffic flow on Highway-48 to be restored. The injured victims were provided immediate medical aid and have been referred to a hospital in Udaipur for further treatment.
