In a significant action against corruption within the police force, two constables from Uttar Pradesh were suspended on Thursday after a viral video allegedly captured them extorting money from a truck driver. The swift action was ordered by Aligarh's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Neeraj Kumar Jadaun.
Video Evidence Leads to Swift Suspension
The incident came to public attention when a passerby discreetly recorded the entire episode on a mobile phone. The video was later uploaded on the internet, where it gained rapid circulation. The footage purportedly shows the two constables, identified as Sanjay Kumar and Manoj Kumar, both in uniform, stopping a truck that was transporting buffaloes to a slaughterhouse.
In the clip, the policemen can be seen accepting money from the driver. Furthermore, the conversation between them includes discussions about making "further arrangements," indicating a potential ongoing extortion racket. The truck was intercepted within the jurisdiction of the Rorawar police station in Aligarh district, where both constables were posted.
Legal Action Initiated Under Corruption Act
Taking serious note of the widely shared video, the local circle officer conducted a preliminary inquiry and submitted a report. Based on this report, SSP Neeraj Kumar Jadaun ordered the immediate suspension of the two accused constables. Following the suspension, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Rorawar police station, Vijay Singh, was directed to register a formal case.
A case has been registered under Sections 7 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. These sections deal with public servants taking illegal gratification and criminal misconduct, respectively. The registration of the FIR marks the beginning of formal legal proceedings against the duo.
Zero-Tolerance Stance Against Corruption
SSP Neeraj Kumar Jadaun issued a strong statement following the action, sending a clear message across the police department. He emphasized that any form of extortion or corrupt practice would not be tolerated. The senior police official warned that stern and immediate action would be taken against any personnel found involved in such unlawful activities.
