The Congress leaders submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission, arguing that the rejection was based on flimsy grounds and lacked legal merit. They emphasized that Natarajan's nomination was fully compliant with all required procedures and documentation.
Party's Stance on the Issue
Congress General Secretary K C Venugopal stated that the party would not accept the rejection and would pursue all available legal and constitutional remedies. He accused the ruling party of using the Election Commission to undermine democratic processes.
Senior leader Jairam Ramesh highlighted that the rejection sets a dangerous precedent and undermines the integrity of the Rajya Sabha elections. He demanded a thorough inquiry into the matter.
Meenakshi Natarajan's Response
Meenakshi Natarajan expressed shock at the rejection, asserting that her nomination papers were in order. She thanked the party leadership for their support and expressed confidence that the Election Commission would reconsider its decision.
The Congress party has vowed to escalate the matter if the Election Commission does not act promptly. Party leaders are exploring options, including approaching the judiciary.
