A 60-year-old woman and a 19-year-old youth were killed in two separate hit-and-run incidents in Chatra district since late Friday, police said.

Woman killed during morning walk

Kanti Devi, 60, was out on her morning walk when a speeding truck crushed her to death near the gate of Hunterganj police station around 6 am on Saturday. Mother of a local functionary of the Congress party, Kanti was dragged by the truck for nearly 200 feet before the vehicle came to a halt. She was killed on the spot. The driver fled the scene with the truck.

Angry locals blocked NH-22 for two hours seeking arrest of the absconding driver and compensation for Kanti's family members. Prabhat Kumar, the officer-in-charge of Hunterganj police station, said, "The truck has been identified and will be seized too. Efforts are on to arrest the driver as well."
