Two from Haryana burnt alive in Jabalpur SUV fire

Jabalpur: Two men from Haryana were burnt alive after their sports utility vehicle (SUV) got trapped between two heavy trucks and caught fire following a collision near Sharda Mandir under Barela police station limits in Jabalpur on Saturday evening, police said.

Victims Identified

The deceased have been identified as Prashant, 45, and his driver Monu Sharma, 42, both residents of Rohtak, Haryana. Police said the SUV was travelling from Mandla towards Jabalpur when the accident occurred.

Accident Details

Additional Superintendent of Police Suryakant Sharma said the vehicle attempted to overtake a heavy truck and was moving ahead when another truck coming from behind came alongside it, trapping the SUV between the two heavy vehicles. The SUV got wedged between the trucks and was dragged for nearly 200 metres before it caught fire, police added.

Eyewitness Accounts

Eyewitnesses reported that the flames spread rapidly, leaving no time for the occupants to escape. Despite rescue efforts by police and fire brigade teams, both occupants died on the spot due to severe burn injuries. The SUV was completely gutted in the blaze. The registration details helped police identify the victims, who were later confirmed to be residents of Rohtak.

Investigation Underway

After the accident, the truck drivers allegedly abandoned their vehicles and fled the scene. Police have seized both trucks and registered a case. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest the absconding drivers. The bodies were sent for post-mortem after completion of legal formalities, officials said.
