The Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) of Prayagraj has requested a police report regarding allegedly objectionable social media posts targeting the daughter of former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for June 18. The order was issued in response to a petition filed by former Samajwadi Party district president Yogesh Chandra Yadav, who sought the registration of an FIR against those operating the accounts behind the posts and requested an investigation by the cybercrime cell.
According to the petitioner, the posts aim to tarnish the social, personal, and political image of Akhilesh Yadav. It is also alleged that those responsible intend to disturb social harmony. The petitioner stated that Akhilesh Yadav's daughter is a student and that the posts concerning her have no public interest, but are personal, obscene, and objectionable.
Conspiracy Alleged
The petitioner further alleged that the language used in several social media posts is similar, prima facie indicating a coordinated conspiracy. It was noted that the matter is purely cyber and digital in nature, and only a specialized cyber agency can obtain electronic evidence to identify contact numbers and email IDs of those responsible and enable legal action.
Legal Action Sought
The petitioner also urged the court to take steps to curb the misuse of social media platforms for defaming individuals. Screenshots, social media URLs, and other digital evidence have been submitted with the petition. Stay updated with the latest Prayagraj news.
