Mohali Police Files Two Separate FIRs in Rape Cases Involving False Marriage Promises
The Mohali district police have registered two distinct First Information Reports (FIRs) in separate incidents of rape allegedly committed under the pretext of marriage. Both cases have been filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with the accused individuals currently absconding as authorities intensify search operations.
First Case: Zirakpur Police Station Area
In the initial case registered at the Zirakpur police station, the complaint involves Rohit Kumar, a resident of Pathankot. According to police reports, Kumar is accused of raping a 26-year-old woman from Panchkula, Haryana, with the assistance of an accomplice. The survivor alleged that the accused had been promising marriage for an extended period, leading her to engage in a physical relationship based on this assurance.
When the woman later insisted on formalizing the marriage, Kumar reportedly refused and severed all communication. Based on her complaint, an FIR has been registered against Rohit Kumar under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Police officials confirmed that the accused is currently at large, with ongoing efforts to locate and apprehend him.
Second Case: Phase 11 Police Station, Mohali
The second FIR was lodged at the Phase 11 police station in Mohali. This case involves Gurvinder Singh, a resident of Phase 11, who is accused of assaulting and raping a 32-year-old woman on February 1. Both the accused and the survivor reside in the same locality, adding a layer of complexity to the investigation.
In her formal complaint, the survivor detailed that Singh allegedly beat her, tore her clothes, and sexually assaulted her. Acting swiftly on these allegations, the police registered a case under sections 64(2), 74, and 76 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Similar to the first case, Gurvinder Singh remains at large, with authorities actively pursuing his arrest.
Police Investigation and Current Status
Police officials have emphasized that evidence collection is underway in both cases. Raids and search operations are being conducted across multiple locations to apprehend the accused individuals. The Mohali police are coordinating with neighboring districts to ensure a thorough investigation and swift justice for the survivors.
The registration of these FIRs highlights the ongoing challenges in addressing crimes involving false promises of marriage, particularly under the new legal framework of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Authorities urge the public to report any relevant information that could aid in the arrest of the accused.
