Two separate and tragic road accidents in Nuh district on Wednesday resulted in the deaths of a teenager and a young child, highlighting the grim reality of reckless driving on local roads. In both incidents, the drivers responsible fled the scene, leaving the victims behind.
Teenage Conductor Killed on Didara Bypass
A 17-year-old boy lost his life instantly after a speeding truck hit his motorcycle on the Didara bypass road on Wednesday afternoon. The victim, identified as Rajkumar, was a native of Kannauj in Uttar Pradesh. He worked as a conductor for an agency named Rajeev Tour Travels and resided in Chundika village, where the agency's office and bus stand are located.
Following the collision, the truck driver did not stop to help and instead escaped from the location. Alert passersby informed the police, who arrived promptly. The officials shifted Rajkumar's body to the Nuh civil hospital for postmortem procedures.
The Taoru city police station has registered a case under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A police spokesperson stated, "Efforts are underway to identify and trace the absconding truck driver. Investigation is in progress to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the accident."
Five-Year-Old Girl Crushed Outside Her Home
In a heartbreaking parallel incident in Umra village of Nuh, a five-year-old girl playing outside her house was killed by a speeding car. The young victim, named Arista, suffered critical injuries after being run over by a tyre of the vehicle.
Local residents rushed the severely injured girl to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared her dead upon arrival. In his formal complaint, the girl's grandfather, Siraj, recounted the horror. "A car being driven at high speed by a man from the village hit my granddaughter. She fell and came under its tyre," he told the police.
Mimicking the first case, the driver of the car also abandoned the scene. Based on the grandfather's complaint, the Nagina police station filed a case against the unidentified driver under sections 281 and 106 of the BNS.
Police Investigations and a Disturbing Trend
The body of the young girl was sent for a postmortem examination and was later handed over to her grieving family on Tuesday evening. According to a family member, she was laid to rest at the village cemetery. Her grandfather informed the police that his son, Arif, is now left with two other children.
Police officials confirmed that active efforts are on to identify the vehicle involved in the second accident through local inquiries and technical surveillance. A senior officer assured, "The driver will be identified and arrested soon. Strict action will be taken as per law."
These two incidents add to a devastating toll on the district's roads. Shockingly, in the past week alone, eight people have lost their lives in various road accidents across Nuh district, including three members of a single family in a separate tragedy.
