A long-standing factional feud turned deadly in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool district on Monday, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving another critically injured. The brutal attack occurred in Kandanathi village, located within the Yemmiganur mandal, and has been linked by authorities to a cycle of retaliation stemming from a murder case two years ago.
Cycle of Violence and Retaliation
According to police officials, the roots of Monday's violence stretch back several years. The situation intensified two years ago when members of one group were implicated in a murder case. Following this, the rival faction reportedly left the village. Their recent return to Kandanathi is believed to have reignited tensions, leading directly to the fatal confrontation. Sub-Inspector Srinivasu of Yemmiganur stated that the killings were a clear case of old disputes boiling over into retaliatory violence.
Chronology of a Brutal Attack
The violence unfolded in a series of targeted assaults. Boya Paramesh, 35, was the first victim, murdered in an agricultural field on the village outskirts. Subsequently, Boya Venkatesh, 40, was hacked to death inside the village itself. A third man, Boya Govind, faced a severe attack with hunting knives while returning from the fields. He was rushed to a hospital, where he remains in serious condition.
Police Response and Investigation
In the aftermath of the attack, palpable tension gripped Kandanathi village. Police forces were quickly deployed to the spot to bolster security and prevent any further outbreaks of violence. Deputy Superintendent of Police M Bhargavi visited the scene, conducted preliminary enquiries, and issued directives to identify and apprehend the assailants. Law enforcement has registered cases and launched a detailed investigation into the double murder.
Special police teams have been constituted to track down the accused. Authorities have assured the public of strict action against all individuals involved in planning and executing the violent attacks. The police are treating the incident with high priority, given its grave nature and the potential for further escalation of the old rivalry.
